All types of support

Children and young people

Children and teenagers can't always describe what they are going through. Their feelings deserve attention.

Trust before words

I build a relationship at the young person's pace — through conversation, play and drawing, depending on their age and needs. It matters that they feel heard and taken seriously.

I also support parents and carers in understanding their child better. When we first get in touch, we agree who will attend the consultation and how to prepare.

First, we get to know the young person and their world. Then we look for a way to support them.

Understanding a child's world

Conversation, drawing and play can help us understand a young person's world. The format depends on their age and needs.

Agreeing things first
When getting in touch, tell me the child's age and briefly explain what brings you here. We will agree who comes to the first consultation and what to ask beforehand.
Space for parents
A parent or carer may also need a conversation about communication, boundaries, changes in the family or feeling overwhelmed themselves.
Illness in the family
Support can also relate to cancer in the family or the loss of someone close. Children don't have to use the same words or react in the same way as adults.

You can ask

Who comes to the first meeting?

We agree this when you first get in touch, taking the child's age and situation into account. Don't assume that the first conversation will be with the young person alone.

Does my child need to talk a lot?

No. We allow time to get to know each other and build trust. The meeting is adapted to the young person.

How can I ask about support?

Write to me with the child's age and what you would like to ask about. Personal details can wait until the consultation.

Where shall
we start?

Our first meeting helps us get to know your situation and needs. You don't need to prepare your story or know what to ask.

We usually talk for 50 minutes. We agree the date, fee and consultation format in advance. During the meeting, we explore possible next steps together.
